I wanted to share a personal story. This kind of stuff often intrigues people who are curious by the outcome of triumph or defeat.

Several years ago a person I knew was stuck in what most would call, “a midlife crisis.” His job of over two decades became a bore and he began to ponder where his life was headed. He knew he needed to support his family, but intentionally or unintentionally began to sabotage every opportunity that came his way.

Who sways public opinion more than any other single individual these days? My vote: Oprah Winfrey. I've been an interested viewer of her show for just about as long as it's been on air - 20+ years. She's gone through many changes in the focus of her show and recently she's dedicated to shifting the consciousness of the planet. If she's anything, she's a BIG thinker.

As a matter of fact, the earliest de Wind documented in my family tree is not even a de Wind, but rather a Levy - my great-great-grandfather, Alexander Levy, who was born around 1765 in The Hague (then, ’s-Gravenhage) and assumed the name de Wind in 1811.

Portsmouth, England - King George II commissioned George Friedrich Handel to write a solemn but celebratory piece of choral music for the funeral of Queen Caroline, in 1737. It was well received but when Handel asked permission to perform a new arrangement of it in Italian at a concert to boost his income the king refused and demanded the Italian version be buried forever.

Judicial Watch Uncovers New FCC Documents on Fairness Doctrine Debate

Washington, DC - Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has obtained documents from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) concerning the "Fairness Doctrine," a policy abolished in 1987, and other governmental means to limit free speech in the media. Judicial Watch obtained the documents in response to a December 2008 Freedom of Information Act request.

Survey Reveals Higher Satisfaction with Independent Auto Mechanics

Consumer ReportsYonkers, New York - Some 84 percent of car owners reported being very satisfied with maintenance performed at independent shops compared with 77 percent at dealerships, according to a Consumer Reports National Research Center survey involving 349,000 vehicles owned by Consumer Reports subscribers. But they were more satisfied with the dealer service of some car brands than of others.
