In a world filled with authors it is hard to make a name for yourself today. The competition is endless and so are the critics. From my experience, most authors presume that years of schooling and a host of acronyms attached to their name will put them into a different category above everyone else. Well, welcome back to earth children.

Writing takes passion, heart, and the willingness to let the words you write come from your soul in order to create a special piece that will last forever. Too bad the editor I hired for my book did not realize this.

She was an amazing person that I admired. Intellectually brilliant in the field of literature, I felt she was the one I needed to make my book perfect. I soon realized I was wrong.

Unfortunately, she lacked the most important attribute required for this field. She did not realize the power in the writing, only the mistakes. She chose to judge and characterize without believing in the creativeness of the work. As a result, I pulled the book after almost a year in limbo on her desk.

Believe it or not, it is these people who inspire me everyday. I don’t get angry with rejection, characterization, or judgmental feelings. These situations encourage me to learn more and use God’s gift of tenacity to keep going. Can you imagine the people who counted out Ford or Lincoln?

It is a shame that our society offers so much, but denies so many. I am proud to write that I don’t come from privilege, but poverty. I am proud to write that I don’t have the proper schooling, just a Ph.D. in life. I am proud to write that I came from a broken home. Most important, I am proud to write that I am not perfect, I am an Author.

Never let others count you out!
