I have a lot of causes I believe in. For example, I believe in animal welfare. I think animals should be treated humanely and comfortably all of their life. I am also a firm believer in saving the rain forest. We need the rain forest. It is a miracle of nature that human kind needs to stop cutting down. But there is one cause that hits very close to home.
One could say it literally weighs me down - on my chest that is. Yes, I’m talking about my boobs, and more specifically, about breast cancer. I’m not talking about just breast cancer awareness, because we need to get beyond the awareness of it – we need to get to a cure. For generations, breast cancer was such a taboo subject. We couldn’t talk about the boobies…even though women were dying because of the very things that help give life. Now, breast cancer awareness is a cause that is gaining a lot of media attention. Unfortunately women have had to die for this to happen. Breast cancer has been with us as long as there have been men who have loved breasts. So why are breast cancer awareness and the fight for a cure suddenly gaining so much ground? It may be partly due to a website out there that likes to give a little flash…of the boob. It’s called http://boobiethon.com and they have a fantastic motto: “We Share Because We Care.” The part I think is totally awesome is what they are sharing: boobies. Yup, that’s right; there are pictures upon pictures of breasts on this website. And anyone can look. During the week of October 1 – 8, women will bare it all on this website…in order to raise $10,000 for breast cancer research. What does the coordinator of Boobies.com think about all of it? “I love the idea,” says Melissa Connolly, 2008 coordinator, “If someone’s going to ogle my goods, they can at least make a donation to save boobies and lives!” HA HA! I love that. More women need to get paid to have their chest stared at. And why not? It’s such a fantastic cause. Someone asked me what I, as a woman, thought of the idea of women taking it off for charity: was I offended? Did I feel the website exploited women? My answer? A resounding: Hell no! The breast is a beautiful thing, and I think one would be hard pressed to find anyone to disagree with that. People have to pay to have beautiful paintings hanging in their living room, or shell out ten bucks to visit a museum gallery. Why not pay to look at breast? It’s a fabulous idea. The breast is, after all, God’s greatest piece of art (or so many a-man has told me). I don’t believe this website to be sexual in nature; it’s definitely not porn. Heck, they even have pictures of man boobs on there, because yes, even men can get breast cancer. This website is dedicated to the health and wellness of the breast, and I am all for that. You see, I have two breast, and though they may not be much (what with all the birthing of the babies), I still am rather fond of them (as is the boy I like to go out with on occasion). So I am all for finding a cure for breast cancer. Boobiethon.com has a large gallery of breasts, with mini-galleries included. Some of the galleries one can view are: Black and white (photography), breast feeding (after all, that is the breasts’ main purpose), colorful, female, male, moody (hmmm…I wonder when my breasts have ever been moody), and many more. All the photographs are tasteful, and well done. The site is absolutely beautiful. As are the breasts portrayed. If you’re looking for a place to donate your money, and you like boobies, then www.boobiethon.com is definitely the place for you. Just think, all you boys out there, you can sneak a peek to your heart’s content and not feel a twinge of guilt…as long as you make a healthy donation to keep those things that you love healthy for years to come. |
