“Be Sincere of Heart and Steadfast, Undisturbed in Time of Adversity” The Bible

Before all of this free money started pouring out of Washington, the normal process of failure did pretty well. If a person or company overstepped their bounds and took risks it was considered do or die. Those that did it well achieved the American dream while those who failed paid the consequences and started over again. That is the human spirit.

In my opinion; and I speak for many I’m sure, this process we are experiencing now is an awful lesson to teach our children. Irresponsibility is now considered ‘ok’ by today’s standards. Why is the government funding people’s mistakes? Why do people believe the government should bail them out? By all accounts what these companies and people should experience is the normal process of failure; which in the end would let the economy take its course and teach these people responsibility. The only thing the government should be funding is a good lesson on economics.

I can speak about the process because I have experienced it full force. Almost five years ago I ran into the same problem on a personal level. My business did well for many years until the profitability became to lean to operate. Rising costs and overhead drained any chances of my company getting back on its feet again. The banks knew this along with friends and family, but no one offered help. The end result was to close the company, lick my wounds, and start again. As with any house of cards, once you remove one piece the rest start to fall.

Soon the nice home had to go along with the new car and investments as part of the process. My wife and I contacted an attorney and willfully relinquished all of these items ahead of time. The system kicked in with someone buying the house at auction, the car found another home and the company was liquidated. File done, case closed!

Why isn’t this same process happening today? Corporations could be sold and consolidated, homes would find new owners, although it may take a little longer, but the system would be able to take its course. It would hurt like heck, but the end result is a stable outlook and more responsible people.

Most important is how our children view what is going on. Every newspaper, news station, and the internet proudly feature doom and gloom perspectives with pompous government officials made to look like superheros with capes trying to fix the problem. I’ve tried on many occasions to interview politicians on this issue and no one has responded. The doors of Washington are closed except to a known few in the media that will not challenge them.

I still believe, even after this rant that America is the land of opportunity. The problem is if these politicians on Capital Hill keep doing what they are doing our children will suffer greatly with debt they should not have. If there is one thread of responsibility left in this country it is not Washington, or the media, but the American people who will ultimately find a way to fix the problem. All we need to do is remember this when election time comes again.
