We all have days when everything we do or every situation we come in contact with becomes a total disaster. The fact is that sometimes a day takes on a life of its own and it is totally beyond our control from stopping all the crap that is going to happen. Not too long ago, I had a day where I had a computer problem. While I was in the middle of fixing my computer, my monitor died, the screen went black.

Later on that day, I noticed a broken suspension rod on my car and that involved spending two hours at a welding shop to get it fixed. Then I got a phone call from a client, who all of a sudden came to the conclusion that I wasn’t returning his calls and he was upset. He was wrong but you don’t win points with your clients by proving them wrong. The trick to surviving a bad day is to avoid making major decisions and just allow things to run their course. You can’t throw in the towel, you have to hang in, hold on tight and endure the ride. Yes, I know it is not fun. It is a rule of the universe and if you break this rule, fate will kick your ass many times over in the future.

When it comes to money, you must remember not to live so close to the edge that if you have just one unexpected financial expensive, it takes you months to catch up to where you were before it all hit the fan. I’ve known people, who were living so close to the edge, that a single bad day started a domino effect where they ended up going bankrupt. In life we all need a cushion to fall on cause everyone once in a while life is going to hit you below the belt and knock you on your ass. You want to have a cushion under your butt when that happens.

If at end of a really bad day, you’re not in the hospital, you’re not dead and you still have your health. Then, tomorrow you can continue on and eventually you will forget about that horrible day where everything that could wrong did go wrong. When you’re having a really bad day, you must remember not to lose control, you must not all your emotions to take over, even though you feel as if the weight of the world is on your shoulders. If you lose control and do or say something stupid, it can easily cause a much bigger problem later on. You don’t want to extend the life of a bad day and enable it to cause more problems for you in the future.

Don’t worry about blaming yourself or blaming others when everything starts going wrong. Even if the blame is well deserved, focusing on blame will distract you from solving the problem in front of you. If you can remain focussed you may be able to prevent a bad situation from getting worse. Also, you must never say out loud, “Things couldn’t possibly get any worse”. Oh yes, they can and this is why you must never tempt fate. No matter how bad things are going they can always get worse. You must never start behaving in a way that invites a bigger disaster.

When I have a day where everything is going totally out of control, I take a break. I will go eat some food that puts me in a good mood, take a nap, invite a female friend to come over, kick back and watch an erotic video with her. That is how I regain my sanity.

Look at it this way, the best time to take a day off is when everything is going bad. Why would you want to take a day off from your daily routine when everything is going just fine?

So, why do we have bad days, when we’ve done nothing wrong to deserve such a horrible experience? I don’t know. Maybe God is still mad at your for something you did ten years ago? Maybe God is testing you before he gives you something really wonderful? Maybe your name came up on some revolving roulette wheel in another dimension and by watching you deal with a ton of trouble, someone somewhere is getting a big laugh out of it.

Just remember when everything is going bad don’t do anything stupid to create a permanent problem for yourself. Most bad days don’t leave permanent problems behind for you to deal with, unless you’ve been a scumbag, who has been causing problems for others for a long time. If that happens to be your situation, my prognosis would be that your luck has finally run out. Evil people often seem to have very good luck for a long time, they get away with doing a lot of bad things, until that one day when hit the end of their lucky streak. Ouch…

If you’re a decent person and you’re wondering why bad things happen to good people, I can only tell you that life is not fair so be grateful for every good day that you experience. Whenever you get lucky, such as when you score a one-night stand with a very sexy person, you should say a prayer of thanks because while you’re enjoying wild hot monkey love, someone else is having a really bad day. If that person is someone you know and don’t like, it makes the good times even better for you.
