This weeks Miss Americas Pageant fiasco is proof that this country has reached its breaking point. I was overjoyed when this happened because people will now realize how un-free free speech really is. The media has taken sides on this with Hollywood vs. America. Unfortunately, Hollywood celebrities are offered the spotlight while the rest of America has to sit back and take it. What Hollywood and Media don’t understand is America is a big country.

Imagine being asked that question Miss California had to endure? Most important, imagine a country where you have to hide your beliefs and only congregate with people who believe the same way you do? Well; it is happening all around us and we have the media and Hollywood to thank for it. Welcome to medieval times; my friends, all over again.

As I monitored the pageant news I was shocked by other contestant’s commentary. Several of these contestants actually would have hid their true beliefs just to get the crown. In fact, they even mentioned how Miss California lost because of her answer and they would have answered otherwise just to win. Either these contestants are very shallow thinkers or they are afraid to be themselves. You make the call.

The point is how far have we come in this so-called free society? It seems as if we are moving backwards instead of forward. There are so many touchy issues that normally would not offend, but now do. Whether it is the words we speak, clothes we wear, or how we raise our children, there always seems to be someone there to criticize. How can we move forward in a society in a melting pot ready to explode? What will happen to our children as a result?

The notion that all of us must be politically and biblically correct will set the course for a society of unproductive insecure people always looking, but never achieving. The true creativeness will be squandered due to lack of confidence and creativity brought upon by fear and backlash.

I realize that we are inundated with 24-7 news, but that doesn’t mean it should tell us how to think. Unfortunately, as we see day in and day out with information being thrown at us, the masses are starting to listen. The common water cooler question, “How’s the weather?” is now replaced with “God, did you see what happened last night?”

Kudos to Miss California on her courage to believe in herself and not let anyone or any movement stand in her way. She is the true winner of this now defunct American tradition. I will not be sad when next years ratings of this show are cut in half by this political stunt. Most important, I hope people who have as much courage as Miss California will not waste their time on this event and pursue others things in their lives.

With that said, what we have forgotten as a society is simple common respect towards each other. I guess that has been pushed aside by people who have become sucked into this society of greed, disrespect, and ignorance. I rest my case.
