In my years as a corporate trainer I repeatedly witnessed this disturbing fact. I watched the tears of frustration and anger employee’s held inside. All of them had dreams and were not afraid to divulge them to me. Many of them expressed in great detail the life they wanted to create, but the majority, roughly ninety percent, cast them out as just nebulous thoughts or redundant thinking. So I started doing research. The outcome from this three year study was quite troubling. If you can imagine a rat in a cage then you would realize how these people felt on a daily basis. Most important was their inability to focus on the tasks at hand to get their correct job done. This became frustrating to me as I was faced with training people who really did not want to be there. Their feelings of insignificance and fear of the future ultimately put a strain on everyone around them. This type of behavior is easy to recognize. I guarantee most of you have encountered this in some way. You see it in the service, attitude, and all around productive ability shown by most workers in the marketplace today. If you are happy with your position try to offer support and offer a smile to those around you. You’ll be glad you did. That one gesture could offer a ray of hope in these troubled lives. In my life, that feeling is something I know well. Those of you who read my columns will notice a small picture of me next to my weekly writings. There you see this astute individual in a black and white photograph posing perfectly for the camera. What most of you don’t realize, and I write this proudly, I have not technically worked for over a year. On May 31st of last year I was one of those who became a statistic in these troubled times. I knew this was my opportunity to finally pursue my dream, which you now get to read on a weekly basis. I have been fortunate from an economic stand point, but I am not afraid to say that it has been scary at times. Those feelings of insignificance do trouble me as I try to provide for the one’s I love. I still have a mortgage and other bills to pay, but somehow I find a way each month that goes by. Most important, I say to myself everyday that I will never feel like a rat in a cage and I will continue to do whatever it takes to follow my dream. This is something all of you should consider no matter what your situation is. Don’t worry about how the market is, worry about how you can conquer it. There are millions of opportunities out there just waiting to be brought forth. I guarantee your dream is one of them. The pain you experience trying to achieve it is nothing compared to the feelings of failure. The path to any success in life is the road you build during the process. Make the best of where you are now while you keep building that road you’ve always dreamt of. © Jerry Maldonado all rights reserved-2009 - This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |

We all have dreams. Whether we dream of success or prosperity, dreams are a vision of the future. The problem is the majority will never see their dreams materialize.
