The fact is that every time you go into a restaurant to eat or go into a market and buy a can of processed food, you are taking a risk, you don’t know who handled or cooked that food before you came into contact with it. You have no way of knowing if some dangerous chemical has accidentally ended up in the food that you’re about to eat. You have to accept it as a “safe risk”. Every time you get on board a bus, a train or an airplane, you have no idea if the driver, the conductor or the pilot is going to have a heart attack while he is in the driver’s seat. This is a fact of life and on some levels, life is a game of chance. In many states .08 is the legal limit for being drunk. If the alcohol count in your blood is higher than that, you are legally drunk and you should not drive a car. The fact is there are people who after consuming just one alcoholic drink are in no shape to drive. He/she might only register a .05 but they are so impaired that he/she is a danger to everyone else on the road. Some people who own pit pulls abused them so these dogs develop an angry disposition. That is why some communities want to outlaw this breed of dog. What about the majority of dog owners who don’t abuse their pit bulls and their dogs aren’t a threat to society. Why should those people be punished? There are people who want to outlaw gun ownership across the country. They have good intentions but they don’t understand the reality of the situation. Most legal gun owners seldom use their guns to commit crimes. It is the criminals, who are not legal gun owners that commit most of the murder and hold-ups. Why should law abiding guns owners be looked at with contempt when it is the illegal gun owner who commits most of the gun related crimes? Most of those who want to create more gun control laws really don’t understand human nature. The fact is that some people are just evil and it is the evil people we need to get rid of. The death penalty is the solution. We don’t need more gun control laws. When it comes to speed limits, some people are unsafe drivers at any speed. Lowering the speed limit will not solve that problem but it will slow down the rest of us who are capable of driving safely even at one hundred miles per hour. The reality is that we do need laws to regulate the idiots who aren’t smart enough to the difference between right and wrong. Maybe they’re only five percent of the population but the rest of us, who are ninety-five percent of the population, have to suffer because we are being over regulated. If someone is stupid enough to light a firecracker and continue to hold it in his or her hand, no law can save that person from himself. The Solution: If people could be tested and certified so that once they prove their ability to function safely at a higher level, then a specific law would no longer apply to them. Imagine if a Police Officer stopped you for drinking beer while you’re driving your car above the speed limit, all you would have to do is to pull out your certification card. Then with a smile you tell the Police Officer that you have been certified to drive above the speed limit while enjoying a beer and therefore the speed limit law and the drinking while driving law do not apply to you. At this point you are either laughing or becoming upset. My point is that decent people with normal intelligence will do the right thing most of the time. They don’t need a law to tell them difference between right and wrong. They already know. It is the losers of the world, the scumbags, the morons and the criminals that need to be over regulated and not the rest of us. In some areas, creating laws that treat everyone equally is a really bad idea. Once a person has proven that he/she is a scumbag, there should be a separate set of laws that regulate them but not the rest of us. Over-regulating those who are not the source of the problem only creates new problems. One day in the future, during the post-nuclear period, the time after ‘the big flash’ when those who are still alive come together to rebuild the world, I would be happy to serve humanity as “King of the World” and “Chief Provider of Common Sense”. I believe that if most of us can learn from all our previous mistakes, working together we will get it right the next time around. If you know anyone, who is big on creating new laws to solve social problems, we can only hope that he/she doesn’t reproduce. We already have too many people in government who have been educated way beyond their intelligence. Still, you might want to cut out this column and send it to him/her or hang it on a wall where it will be seen. As always, I welcome your comments. In case you haven’t noticed more and more laws are being created all the time to regulate what you can and can not do. Your personal rights are being taken away from you all the time. There are organizations out there and some people in government who believe that if you create enough laws, regulating human behavior, you can make it a safe world for everyone. These people are a bunch of morons, life is not safe and it was never meant to be safe and in the end we all end up dead anyway.
