It is unfortunate that the grounds of the once mighty World Trade Center have not been brought back to life. The bickering and politics involved should have been settled many years ago and those buildings put right back where they once stood. The site of that horrible day is a testament to many lives lost and many lives ruined. There are still so many people unaccounted for and this place is their family’s only grave yard. I respect that with the deepest sincerity.

A major news outlet released a story that the terrorists involved with the 9/11 attacks will have a place in the new memorial now being built on that sacred site. I wept as the reporter stated that the terrorists would have their own section in this memorial in order to educate people. In other words, the animals that caused our nation so much pain are now being honored on the same ground where they killed thousands of people.

My question is why? Victim’s families and many others argued not to build on this mass grave and yet we immortalize those who did this. The very people who hated this country now get a special place on the same grounds and in the same building where so many lives were destroyed.

Every year on the anniversary of that horrific day we see endless documentaries flooding the airwaves. The stories of hero firefighters, those who jumped almost a mile to their deaths and the countless others who perished are all irrelevant now. Even our soldiers who went to war are now are just a distant memory because those involved with rebuilding want to play politics and be compassionate to all.

This verbose rant is not about vengeance. It is about the country I love and the simple priorities we as a nation must uphold. The worst attack our country has ever endured has now taken a back seat because of those who don’t care to realize the shame that will be forever added to the 9/11 memorial. What about the countless people who sacrificed their lives? What about the people who saved so many? What about our soldiers?

All of the people throughout history that have fought and died to keep this country free often get a simple granite stone for their effort. The terrorists who killed thousands will now have an elaborate home in the same building in the place where they committed their crime. Americans don’t realize it yet, but the terrorists have won.

This story is not about a group of Muslims who killed people. This is about America killing itself.
