Jerry MaldonadoI found an amazing piece to the success puzzle which some of you, including myself, probably did not realize. It came from an unlikely source and woke me up from my baseball coma as the World Series ended and the celebrations began.

The most valuable player was just announced on live television and he was asked through his translator the key to his amazing success during that pivotal game. He did not hesitate to yell out amongst the noise that patience was his driving force to what he just accomplished. Then it hit me… He was right!

My philosophy of Passion, Persistence, and Patience was now complete. Out was the old belief that Passion, Persistence, and Perseverance were redundant as two of those three words have the same meaning. Embarrassing to admit it on my end, but beneficial to you for something to believe in as we all experience up’s and down’s in our lives.

We all have a passion for something in life. That is natural. We all carry that persistence to evoke others to believe in our passion. But to achieve what we want takes patience, sometimes years in the making.

Think about this for a second. What that baseball player achieved did not just happen, but it took years of relentless letdowns and a mindset for success to finally pay off in one night. The sport itself has enough pressure to crack even the most powerful mind as you sometimes read about others choking under such pressure. His successful career now has been brought to iconic levels because of that simple philosophy and the patience associated with it.

Try telling someone with a type ‘A’ personality to slow down and be patient on success. That would be like trying to shave a cat by yourself without a suit of body armor.

If you have time to research the most successful people you will notice they all followed this mantra. Their version of success was not just what they envisioned, but the process involved with getting there. Success was inevitable with their passion and perseverance to fulfill their dreams, but patience ultimately let them achieve it.

Marriage falls into this same category. My wife and I have been through hell in our almost twenty year relationship. Losing everything, medical issues, a devastating fire and just the pressures of life and raising children would kill the majority of relationships. Our simple philosophy is there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Many times we could have called it quits, but that simple belief has kept us together to raise our children the way it was meant to be.

Granted some would argue with my belief, but look around and see the success generated with simple patience. Those who have it all realize that and I hope you do as well.

Use your passion to inspire you. Use your perseverance to push you. And use patience to help you get there and enjoy the ride.
