You’re a doer…I’m a doer. We’re all doers. Doing is what we do best. You must be engaged! Don’t slow down. DO! Find something to do. Or delegate - give someone else something to do. Keep busy. The busier you are the more important you appear. You are essential! Your world couldn’t survive without your doing. If you didn’t do it, who would? I can’t. I’m too busy with my own doing.

You don’t want to be seen as a slacker, do you? They’ll think you’re lazy - good for nothing. Quick, do something! Look busy, look focused, look engaged. The rule is: Don’t stop doing until you retire. Then you can have the freedom to just be. But, be what…or who? You’ve always been a doer - who are you now? Who have you been all along?

In all the doing-ness of your life, who have you become? Who did you become with each decision; with each change?

They say our outer world is a reflection of our inner selves. But, it’s just as true to say that we become what we perpetually do. It’s an unending circle. Every moment there is a choice before us. Do we do this - or do we do that? Our eyes are trained to the results of our decisions. Did it turn out like we wanted? Did we make a mistake? We witness the outcome out there. But, the ultimate result resides within.

Let’s suppose for a moment that this world provides us doing opportunities for only one reason - to help us understand who we are. To help us develop our Self. Make a decision, learn who you are. Make a mistake, learn who you’re not.

The scorecard of our doing is held by others. The scorecard of our being belongs to us alone. Who have you become with the decisions and choices you’ve made? What was the outcome inside?

Integrity is a poplar word these days for measuring our ethics and our value to society. Its etymology reflects the foundation of many English words: integrate, integral, integration ….even integer. It is a complete entity. Integrity means wholeness…indivisible. Who are you? Are you indivisible? Are you whole? Have all the choices you’ve made in this lifetime given definition to your being? The answer is yes. It cannot be otherwise.

The question is not in the definition of who you are, but in the wholeness of that definition. Do your choices constantly reflect who you are? Are you indivisible? I suppose the opposite of integrity could be schizophrenia. Multiple personalities is one form of schizophrenia. One face - many personalities. A person divided against themselves. Not whole, not integrated.

Determine who you are and who you’re not. Let every choice and decision you make reflect you. That’s what being in integrity is. Being whole to yourself. Being indivisible by contradicting behaviors. Being a complete entity.

Life is hard enough without dividing up into competing selves. At your core there is an indivisible you. Do you know that person? Have you spoken? That core never changes and it never diminishes. It can only be forgotten. Stop scattering yourself in every direction. Sit. Be silent. Breathe into your heart. Your core Self speaks softly. Listen carefully and you will hear it. Its message is of wholeness, calmness, peace, clarity. This is your being - this is your home. Your doing is just outward evidence of who you’re being inside…in your home.
