Flash forward to today. No matter what you call it we are in a war, a war against people who do not care about anyone except those who think like they do. Sound familiar? The ideology of those who try to conquer us today is the same as those we fought against in World War II. Only these cowards hide and do not wear uniforms. This is where Duty, Honor, and Valor come into play. America has always been a crusader of Democracy for the world. Our efforts militarily and our humanitarian generosity span every continent. To this day as we try to keep the peace, evoke Democracy, and feed the hungry our military heroes are always at the ready no matter the cost. Sadly, our heroes have a much bigger enemy and it comes from within our own borders. The politicians are now running the show and the Generals who know how to win must sit back and take it. The art of war has now become a hand book of procedures, red tape, and congressional hearings. God forbid those they are fighting get a bloody nose then all hell breaks loose. I often wonder how many people really understand history. To win a war is not done by those who sit in elegant leather seats in Congress, but leaders who live it, breathe it, and experience it. I ask all of you on this long weekend of food, family, and faith to pray for those who are fighting to keep us safe. It has been eight years since our soil was encroached by barbarians not seen since the Dark Ages. Their belief in terrorism changed how wars are fought and we need to beat them at their own game. We are a free Nation unlike any other on the face of this planet. Our Government has kept us safe, but it can also bring us down. I am just glad our troops have not laid down their arms in disgust as politicians bow to pressure to get re-elected instead of winning a war. ©Jerry Maldonado 2009-all rights reserved This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |

Recently, the History Channel featured World War II unlike anything I’ve seen before. From every gruesome battle to every historic victory I watched this war from a soldier’s point of view. It gave me chills thinking what our heroes went through in those dark endless days and the images that must have haunted them. These brave men had a mission, and America was routing for victory with honor and pride.
