For the past ten years Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Ministries has systematically created an atmosphere to preach faith unlike anyone this country has seen before. His sermons of motivation, scripture, and hope, attract tens of millions of television viewers each month along with thousands in attendance at Lakewood each week.Joel’s message is simple, yet powerful. His enthusiasm for hope helps people realize how the power of faith can enrich their lives and he preaches it with his heart and soul. The unrelenting genuineness in his voice, quotes from scripture and the personal feeling of hope that any challenge can be overcome is what makes him unique. Whatever you call it. Joel’s philosophy is working in a big way. Unfortunately, success comes with a price and if religion is involved the pundits seem to come out of the woodwork. Every component of Joel’s work has been scrutinized by those in the media and bored individuals on the internet. Yet this man’s message is still growing despite those who question his beliefs. What was the foundation of this county’s being has been abused by people with power and the results speak for themselves. Traditional values have now become political issues and the foundation of the American family has been torn apart in so many ways. As I sit here and write this column I can’t seem to get a special little person out of my mind. Little Zackary; or “Zaky” as I call him, is a little boy my wife and I provide daycare for on a regular basis. Lately Zachary has been irritated with constant crying and asking for his mother. My wife and I knew something was not right and soon realized his home life was in turmoil. Zackary’s dad had walked out on the family. With deep feelings of resentment and failure Zackary’s mother was now on her own during this holiday season, but something happened that is changing her life. Zackary’s mom began to hope. The feelings of bitterness she held onto began to slowly be replaced with expressions of gratitude for life, her children, and the future. Each day she is making progress and Zachary has changed as a result. The belief in hope causes one to have faith to overcome anything life throws their way. These basic principles are the foundation that is preached at every sermon Joel Osteen conducts. No matter who or what you believe in, hope and faith are the driving force to a successful life of peace and gratitude. Once people harness this power and start enjoying life America will embrace all traditions and reunite as one. © Jerry Maldonado 2009- all rights reserved This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |

Undoubtedly, religion is making a strong comeback during these tough times. This call back to the pulpit is nothing new in our history, but the person leading the followers is.
